Roles of School Council
Advisory - School improvement planning, school-based services and community partnerships, budget priorities, principal profile, local school calendar, use of school facilities, etc.
Outreach - Developing a sense of community, communication strategies, workshops and seminars, planning and fundraising for extra-curriculars, etc.
Who is Part of School Council?
- Councils are comprised of parents, the principal, one teacher, one admin/support staff (if available), one community rep (if available) and a student (where appropriate).
- Elementary – up to 9 parent voting members
Members are elected annually within the first 45 days of the new school year
Responsibilities of Council Members?
All Council Members
- Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues
- Regularly attend school council meetings
- Participate in information and training programs (if available)
- Act as a link between the school council and the community
- Encourage the engagement of all parents
- Participate on sub-committees and assist with tasks of the school council
Executive Roles
Chair or Co-Chair
- Calls and chairs meetings; sets agendas, works collaboratively with members to assign duties
Treasurer
- Manages finances, reports monthly on accounts
Secretary
- Prepares agendas and minutes
Members at Large
- Participate and encourage participation – vote
- Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting; however, executive members are responsible for formal “voting”
Meeting Requirements
- Meet at least 4x per year
- Quorum – a majority of council present; parent majority of members present (51%)
- Meetings are public and written notice provided
- Meetings follow rules established by council
- Minutes of meeting recorded

Planning Ahead - Fundraising Options for the Future

We provide all the equipment to work with up to 32 students at one time. We can have a maximum of 9 sessions in a day. The Rocks & Rings original program introduces students to curling through several different fun, physical activity stations
